Dymension: Interoperability Through RollApps

Dym Is Money

Greetings frens!

In our previous discussion, we went into the comparative advantages of modular versus monolithic blockchains and speculated on Celestia’s data scalability, among other topics.

With their mainnet launch on the horizon, it seems opportune to shift our focus and engage in similar talk about Dymension!

How Does Dymension Solve Interoperability Issues?

Dymension introduces a solution to interoperability issues through RollApps - not to be confused with RollUps. RollApps are standardized rollups utilizing the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC). Dymension doesn’t use the Ethereum settlement layer. Instead, RollApps settle through the Dymension Hub, a chain based on the Cosmos SDK.

This then brings up a few questions:

1). What new possibilities does this open for data availability layers?

2). Is Moving Away from Ethereum Beneficial? And how does this choice allow RollApps to cater to specific needs like cost efficiency or security?

3). Can RollApps truly ensure safe and trustless bridging, and how does it address scalability?

The Airdrop:

The hype surrounding Dymension is partly fueled by their generous airdrop allocation to TIA stakers, who received 200 DYM for staking at least 1 TIA. The current trading value of DYM on the Aevo pre-market perpetuals exchange is just below $4, making the airdrop worth nearly four figures. Given it’s total supply of 1 billion tokens, Dymension is on the verge of breaking into the top 25 projects, assuming that the airdrop does not lead to a huge dump, but what does this imply for the future of Dymension?

Looking Forward:

The million-dollar question is whether $DYM stakers will receive airdrops from RollApps deploying on its platform. While nothing is guaranteed, the existence of over 500 RollApps in Dymension's network makes this a strong possibility.
